Gears of war 2[]
The War Journal in Gears of War 2 is a new feature which allows players to track single and multiplayer achievements, as well as the 41 items collectively called "collectibles." In addition to the COG Tags, the collectible items include letters, medical records, newspaper clippings and other items that add depth to the game's story. The journal is also where you can see all of your photos and either delete them or submit them or leave them as they are. If you submit a screenshot you get the achievement "Photojournalist". You can also keep track of all of your unlockable characters in it including the Unlockable that says "Insanity" which unlocks Insane difficulty for Horde mode. You can also keep track of all of your achievements for the game too without pulling out the dashboard, and view the public and private leaderboards.
Gears of war 3[]
In Gears of War 3, the War Journal makes a rather small appearance in Act I, Chapter 2. As soon as Marcus wakes up and the cinematic ends, walk over to Marcus' desk and on top of it will be the War Journal from Gears 2. You can't pick it up or interact with it in any way, and it's not a collectable.
