Wakaatu Nest

The Wakaatu Nest, also known as the Wakaatu Tree, is a massive tree on the island of Pahanu that acts as the home of the Wakaatu.

History[]

Early History[]

At some point, this giant tree was selected as a nest by the Wakaatu. Human ruins proliferate the area, suggesting that the Weilehan may have lived here at one point or at least had structures on the tree. One of the structures was an arena like location where Weilehan warriors would face the Wakaatu as part of the Awakening rite of passage which required the Weilehan to go on a Spirit Walk through the ruins on Pahanu and eventually take a boat to the tree.

Even after the Weilehan people moved to the island of Weilehi, they continued this tradition for centuries before eventually stopping. The carving depicting the Wakaatu in the village hall of Weilehi contained a depiction of the tree.[1]

Swarm Invasion[]

Hivebuster Offensive[]

In 42 A.E., after having crashed on Pahanu on their way to Galangi, Team Scorpio witnessed the Wakaatu kill Swarm forces with its acidic venom. Following the failed Hivebust of Sanctum, Doctor Hana Cole realized that combining the Wakaatu's venom with the deadly gas recovered from the New Hope Research Facility could be used to create a much more effective Venom Bomb. In order to get more information, Scorpio and Hana visited Weilehi, but found the village overrun by Swarm forces. From the carving in the village hall, Scorpio learned of the Awakening and the Wakaatu.

In order to get a sample of the Wakaatu's venom, Scorpio was dropped into the ruins on Pahanu and began following the path of the Awakening, eventually spotting the tree that they realized must be the Wakaatu Nest off in the distance. However, the journey was made much more difficult due to Swarm forces in the ruins as well as DeeBees from a crashed Vulture. Eventually, Scorpio was able to make it down a river in a boat to the Wakaatu Nest.

In the arena, Scorpio faced off with the Wakaatu. Utilizing dropped weapons scatted around the arena, Scorpio managed to defeat the creature, although Lahni Kaliso expected it to survive its wounds. As per Weilehan tradition, Scorpio each took a feather from the Wakaatu and Mac took a sample of its venom.[1]
