The Temple of the Trinity was the official residence of the Ketor, the high priest of the Trinity of Worms, located in Nexus. The temple contained the Kantus Scrolls, Rulers of Nexus Plates, and the other scripture relating to the church. The Temple, along with the entirety of Nexus and the Hollow, was flooded by the COG Army in 14 A.E. following the sinking of Jacinto.

History[]

Prelude[]

The Locust Horde were created in the early Pendulum Wars by Dr. Niles Samson. Originally attempting to cure children ill with Rustlung, Dr. Samson wanted to apply transgenics after witnessing the power of genetic mutation in Imulsion. Believing indigenous creatures of the Hollow contained genetic immunity to Imulsion due to their proximity in the wild, Dr. Samson considered using their DNA to transfer to the children. It is believed that Dr. Samson encountered a hibernating Riftworm in the Hollow and used its DNA to genetically engineer a cure for Rustlung in the children. Instead, he created mutated creatures he called Sires.

Sometime later, Dr. Samson tried to perfect his experiments as the Sires were genetically distempered, mindless, and sterile. He then combined the DNA of the Sires with the embryonic stem-cells of Myrrah, a young woman born with a genetic immunity to Imulsion. The offspring resulted in the creation of hybrids called the Locust Horde. The Locust were highly controllable through Myrrah as she was the queen to their Hivemind and were also able to reproduce. As experiments within a facility inside Mount Kadar, the Locust longed for independence and felt imprisoned by the humans. Following the supposed death of her human, infant daughter; Myrrah led a rebellion by commanding the Locust to slaughter the scientists and travel deeper into the Hollow in order to become an independent race.

Deep in the Inner Hollow of Mount Kadar, Myrrah led the Locust Horde as their Queen and began to develop their civilization known as Nexus. During the development of their civilization, the Locust began a religion known as the Trinity of Worms. The belief is that the Riftworms' tunneling created the Hollow and life within it, as well as being genetically part of their creation as a species. Needing a place of worship, the Locust began construction of the Temple of the Trinity within Nexus. A race of Locust Drones known as the Kantus became the priests of the Trinity, acting as Acolytes. The first Ketor, or High Priest, of the Temple was Ketor Droak. During his leadership, Droak the First wrote of his experiences in inhaling Imulsion fumes and being given prophetic visions of the future. Sometime later, Ketor Droak died and was replaced by Ketor Vrol.

Lambent War[]

Innersanctum

Ketor Vrol and Acolyte Skorge in the Inner Sanctum.

The Imulsion in the Hollow began to infect other lifeforms into what was known as Lambency - in which Imulsion would possess the host and compel it to infect and kill others uninfected life. By 7 B.E., the Lambency became an epidemic in the Hollow as members of the Locust Horde and their enslaved creatures were turning Lambent and occupying the underground, causing a conflict between the Locust and their infected brethren. As the years went on, the Lambent War intensified as the Lambent grew while the Locust either died or became Lambent. Many of the Locust became agnostic or atheistic as they felt abandoned by the Gods and that the Hollow was their home by birthright. During the leadership of Ketor Vrol, Acolyte Skorge had a prophetic vision of the Locust Horde falling to the Lambent. Ketor Vrol and the other Acolytes saw this as blasphemous - believing the Riftworms would never abandon them. Acolyte Skorge was then excommunicated from the Trinity and forced to enlist in the Locust Army. It was in this, however, that Skorge met and befriended Vold RAAM.

By the end of the seventh cycle of the Lambent War, Vold RAAM desired to counsel the Queen on the true matters of the war, and advise to colonize the surface in order to escape the Lambent. With Skorge as his ally, he prepared Skorge to attend Ketor Vrol at the Temple and appeal to him a vision of the Temple falling to the Lambent. Vold RAAM convinced Vold Karn and his men to abandon the Expansion Hollow, allowing the Lambent to invade. Skorge arrived at the Temple, hoping to convince Ketor Vrol. While his Kantus brothers initially rejected him by throwing Skorge down the steps, Ketor Vrol invited him into the Inner Sanctum of the Temple - and discussed with Skorge the writings of Droak the First, believing Skorge could access the Rift and use the Riftworms to destroy the Lambent. Skorge, however, insisted on evacuating as the Temple would fall, same with the rest of the Hollow. Ketor Vrol banished Skorge for blasphemy, but the Kantus monks reported attack incoming from millions of Lambent.

Locust War[]

The Temple of the Trinity was ultimately destroyed in 2nd Frost, 14 A.E. during Operation: Hollow Storm.
