Swarmaks are evolved forms of Brumaks following exposure to the Imulsion Countermeasure Weapon in 17 A.E. Swarmaks are known for their natural armor of Imulsion crystals, and can only be targeted by blisters left from emerging out of their shells.
History[]
Swarm Invasion[]
Swarmaks, much like Scions, are former Brumaks that were neutralized when the Imulsion Countermeasure Weapon was activated. In the months following the Imulsion countermeasure, the Brumaks formed a crystalline shell composed of the Imulsion that vacated their cells.
Mission to the Tollen Dam[]
A Swarmak was called in by the Speaker who then rode it to fight JD Fenix, Del, Kait Diaz and Marcus Fenix. The group fought the Swarmak but was unable to deal damage to it due to its hardened carapace from the crystal growths. However, they quickly took advantage of the dam's generators, electrocuting the ground to slightly harm the Swarmak and allow its blisters to be destroyed. It was killed when all of the blisters on it were destroyed with the Speaker being killed moments later by Kait.[1]
Assault on Tollen Dam[]
Several Swarmaks appeared on the way to Tollen Dam to stop the group from reaching the large nest. They were all disposed of by JD and Kait who piloted heavy Mega Mechs to clear all Swarm resistance that appeared.[2]
Evacuation of Settlement 2[]
When the Swarm assaulted Settlement 2, several Swarmaks acted as front line support units to deal significant damage to the COG's infrastructure and armored vehicles. One Swarmak battled against Delta Squad, but was quickly dispatched with the help of a Track Mule carrying Bolo Grenade. Several Swarmaks later pinned down a column of Minotaurs. JD convinced Baird to open fire the newly launched Hammer of Dawn satellite despite the latter's reluctance. While the Hammer made easy work of the Swarmaks, Baird quickly lost control and indirectly led to the death of Elizabeth Carmine.[3]
Battle of Old Ephyra[]
Several Swarmaks took part in the Battle of Old Ephyra. One ambushed Delta Squad as they tried to deploy a Hammer of Dawn targeting beacon at East Barricade Academy. Under Damon Baird's instructions, Delta rushed into a nearby ruined building to plant the beacon, but came under attack by Swarm forces, including a Warden. After Delta killed the Warden and other Swarm forces, they were able to deploy the Hammer of Dawn and kill the Swarmak and the Swarm reinforcements that had joined up with it.[4]
Several more Swarmaks ambushed Delta's Minotaur as it tried to make its way to the outer wall of New Ephyra. Delta stopped to help Gears that were going to be overrun by one Swarmak in particular before Augustus Cole arrived in a Mega Mech. Jumping on its back, Cole punched in the Swarmak's head with the Mega Mech's fists, killing it. However, the victory was short-lived as the Kraken attacked moments later and destroyed Cole's Mech.
All remaining Swarmaks in Old Ephyra were killed when JACK sacrificed himself to use the Hammer of Dawn to destroy the Kraken and the attacking Swarm forces.[5]
Overview[]
Much like regular Brumaks, Swarmaks carried two chain guns on its wrists and a rocket launcher mounted on its back. Unlike regular Brumaks, Swarmaks were much more difficult to kill, since their crystal growths prevented them from taking heavy damage. They functioned similarly to the regular Brumak.
However, Swarmaks had blisters covering their body. This was their "weak spot", and destroying all of these blisters would kill the Swarmak. The blisters were very durable and could take a lot of punishment before being destroyed. When it was destroyed, the Swarmak would be severely hurt, much like a normal Brumak's chain guns exploding on it.
Alternatively, a Swarmak could be killed by ripping its mouth open, though it had to be incapacitated first. Swarmaks always exploded upon death.
In Gears 5, the Swarmak encountered during the Evacuation of Settlement 2 had to be shot repeatedly in the head until Cole drove a Track Mule with Bolo Grenades attached into its mouth. Targeting the bike caused the Swarmak's head to explode. During the Battle of Old Ephyra, the first Swarmak couldn't be killed until the Hammer of Dawn targeting beacon was set up, though shooting at the blisters on the Swarmak to kill it is optional as the beacon still needs to be set up. Once it was set up, the player had to target it with the Hammer of Dawn until it was killed. The third Swarmak simply had to be held off for a brief time until Cole arrived in a Mega Mech to kill it by punching in its head.
