The Catapult is the primary and only weapon of the Siegebeast. These weapons are a primitive and archaic form of artillery, yet it remains an effective weapon as the Locust Horde began to run out of resources to construct more sophisticated artillery systems like the Brumak Rocket Mortar.
These catapults combines the creature's bounded limbs as a organic spring mechanism and a canister on its back which opens up and deposits a large ball of explosive, organic matter into the cup on the end of the wound limbs. It is unknown what kind of explosive ball the canister holds and how much balls these canisters could provide.
Strategy[]
Operating the catapult requires a windup time for the Siegebeast to lower its bounded limbs and allow the canister to deposit the explosive, flaming ball. Once in place, there is a aiming reticle that denotes an approximate distance of where the ball would land.[1]
As the catapult launch its projectile in an arc, much guessing is required to aim the weapon. However, if it hits, it does tremendous damage, breaking apart a dam in a few direct hits or destroying a unfortunate King Raven that flew too close to the Siegebeast.[2]
The catapult plus the beast can be turned and rotated but it cannot be moved, acting as a static emplacement.
In Gears of War 4, a dead Siegebeast is present, whilst the mechanism still surprisingly work, the projectile has long since been degraded into a hardened ball of mass. Due to the presence of a Windflare, Delta Squad was able to curve the trajectory of the ball and knock down a tower to form a bridge to cross.[3]
