Scion Elites are the most experienced Scions who are capable of leading entire detachments of lesser Scions and Drones from the Swarm. They possess both heavy crystallization and armor, making them a formidable enemy to face against. Scion Elites wield Buzzkills, Salvo Rocket Launchers and, in Gears 5, the Cryo Cannon. One known Scion Elite was known as the Speaker and was directly responsible for the raid on Kait Diaz's village.

History[]

Origins[]

Like all Scion varieties, Scion Elites were born from the crystalline shells that encased them following the detonation of the Imulsion Countermeasure Weapon and the ensuing metamorphosis of the entire Locust race. The strange crystals covering the Locust bodies were proven to be unbreakable and indestructible as there were little attempts of destroying them; instead, the COG committed to dumping thousands of dead Locust bodies in abandoned sites for mass burial sites and bury them underneath.

Little did humanity know, the countermeasure weapon never killed the Locusts; rather, it forced the Locusts to shut down for preservation, enhancing them and mutating them in states of prolonged metamorphosis. 25 years later, the Scions along with the rest of its brethren, emerged from their dormant shells and quickly waged a new war for survival against the newly reformed COG.[1]

Swarm Invasion[]

Creating a New Queen[]

As the Swarm Invasion began, a Scion Elite known as the Speaker took command of the Swarm of the Tollen Dam Hive in a plot to capture Reyna Diaz, the daughter of Locust Queen Myrrah and transform her so that Reyna would become their new Queen. The Speaker personally captured Reyna, but had his left hand cut off in the process.[2]

As Marcus Fenix, JD Fenix, Delmont Walker and Kait Diaz made their way through the Tollen Dam, the Speaker appeared and Kait recognized him from his missing hand. The Speaker attacked the group with a Swarmak, but the Swarmak was defeated and killed by Kait. Kait then violently curb stomped the Speaker to death.[3]

Mission to the South Village[]

Two Scion Elites attacked Marcus Fenix, Kait Diaz, Oscar Diaz, Eli and Mackenzie near an old lumber mill along with Juvies, Drones, Snatchers and a Swarmak. The group managed to kill both Scions with Kait stabbing one in the eye with her mother's Locust amulet.[4]

Strategy[]

Only one Scion Elite was encountered in Gears of War 4. This Speaker rode on top a Swarmak to fight Delta Squad as a boss battle. Simply deal with him as you would a normal Swarmak: shoot the blisters and avoid the Swarmak's weapons, switch cover when necessary and prioritise explosive weapons. Rinse and repeat until the Swarmak drops dead.

In Gears 5, Scion Elites are handled like an upgraded Heavy Scion. If he wields a Buzzkill, take cover as the saws could deal heavy damage. To counter the Elites, simply flank him on two sides to keep him distracted.

If the Elite carries a Salvo Launcher, hide inside a building if possible as the erratic rockets and explosion could bypass cover. If no building is present, hide behind cover, while still not viable, it at least beats standing in the open.

For Scion Elites that carry a Cryo Cannon, the same tactic applies to dealing with a Heavy Scion but even better, as the Cryo Cannon has an even shorter effective range than the Mulcher. The only threat is the fact that these Scion Elites are only encountered in cramped spaces.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • Despite carrying a Boom Shield at the back, gameplay-wise, it provides no protection and the Scion never actually uses it; is just there for aesthetics.
  • In Gears of War: Ascendance the Scion Elite is called the Speaker by Kait Diaz, presumably due to her encounter with the individual known as the Speaker.
