- —Dr. Niles Samson's medical file on Ruth.
Ruth was the child of an Imulsion miner and a patient brought to the New Hope Research Facility to be treated for Rustlung. Geneticist Doctor Niles Samson attempted to engineer the children's DNA by combining it with the genes of Hollow animals - resulting in unstable chimeras called Sires. Ruth either died from Rustlung or was transformed into one of these Sires.
Biography
Early Life
Not much is known about Ruth's early life except for she was born in Tyrus to an Imulsion miner during the early Pendulum Wars. Her father and the other miners began displaying symptoms for a respiratory disease known as Rustlung, caused by overexposure to Imulsion fumes. Ruth and the miners' children also displayed these symptoms.
Pendulum Wars
New Hope Research Facility
Ruth, at the age of 15, and dozens of other Tyran children to Imulsion miners were taken by the Coalition of Ordered Governments Department of Health to the New Hope Research Facility, where they would receive treatment for Rustlung. The Director of the facility, Doctor Niles Samson, believed in genetically mutating the children with the DNA from indigenous creatures of the Hollow to evolve them into a superior species that could be used as military potential to end the Pendulum Wars.
While during her stay, she suffered from strange effects from the experiments; such as screaming in the night, sudden changes in behavior, reduction in hair-growth, and accelerated growth of fingernails. Other effects of the experiments included pain from her joint swelling and displayed erratic behavior. She eventually transformed into a Sire
Fate
Ruth's fate remains unknown. It is possible she perished from Rustlung. If she remained in stasis at New Hope, she could have likely been killed by Delta-One during their mission to New Hope or when the facility initiated self-destruct in 42 A.E.
If Ruth was one of the Sires relocated to the Mount Kadar Laboratory following New Hope's shut-down, she also could have been killed by Delta-One during their mission in the lab.

Patient Name: Ruth
Age: 15
Ruth is clearly experiencing extreme swelling in her joints and frequently cries out in pain during the night. She also exhibits rather erratic and unpredictable behavior, though this is quite understandable considering her situation and symptoms. There is a strange discoloration in her eyes, and her breathing often sounds labored. Her nails grow at a faster rate than normal, though her hair grows at a markedly reduced rate. I'll keep trying to find some type of medication to alleviate her pain without adversely affecting our studies.
