A Naval Gun otherwise known as a Big-Gun is an extremely large artillery piece and a primary weapon for most large naval vessels, from either the Coalition of Ordered Governments Navy or the Navy from the Union of Independent Republics.
While Naval Guns come in all shapes and sizes, they are usually large-calibre, triple-barrelled turrets that fire explosive and armor-piercing shells. Due to this, these weapons make for deadly artillery pieces, bombarding coastal cities like Bonbourg and sinking rival enemy ships.[1]
Operation[]
Naval Guns are operated autonomously due to the fact that the firing and loading mechanisms are done through a conveyor system. Each Naval Gun has two decks that house either the magazine or the shell. A crane system is present to pick up both the shell and the appropriate amount of explosive magazine needed to fire the projectile.
The crane than transports the shell and magazine to an elevator which lifts it up to the loading bay. A mechanical arm then pushed the projectile into the back of the gun. The shell is always pushed first, while the magazine charges are rammed later. The Naval Gun is now able to fire.
History[]
Battle of Bonbourg[]
During the Battle of Bonbourg at the twilight of the Pendulum Wars. The UIR Third Fleet used their Battleships to bombard the position of invading COG forces via Naval Guns, on the coastal city of Bonbourg in the Ostri Republic.[2]
The bombardment was prematurely called off however, as several ships were promptly sunk by the newly revealed Hammer of Dawn weapons.[3]
