The Mission to Azura Research Facility was a recovery operation to locate and launch a Hammer of Dawn satellite to use against the Swarm during the Swarm Invasion. In 42 A.E., shortly after the Swarm emerged as a new threat, Damon Baird uncovered intel from Adam Fenix's files that a spare Hammer of Dawn satellite was situated at an abandoned weapons lab on Azura, an island bunker and research center for the COG elite during the Pendulum Wars and Locust War.
Led by Sgt. Marcus Fenix, son of Adam Fenix, Delta-One traveled to Azura without authorization of First Minister Mina Jinn, who opposed the reactivation of the Hammer of Dawn due to being a former Stranded - a survivor of the Hammer of Dawn Strikes. The mission was accomplished by Lt. James Dominic Fenix, Lt. Delmont Walker, Cpl. Kait Diaz, and Pvt. Samantha Byrne. After landing on the island, Delta discovered that Azura's Locust burial site was active and clashed with the Swarm forces that emerged. The mission resulted in both the successful launch of the satellite and the recovery of data revealing the existence of the Union of Independent Republics own secret Hammer of Dawn program.
