The Kryll Grenade[1] was a weapon used by the Theron Elite and General RAAM. It is considered a more tactical but unsophisticated way of weaponizing Kryll in contrast to RAAM's symbiotic and mutualist relationship.
Due to this factor, Kryll Grenades are only gifted to the most elite Locust and only those under RAAM's command given the voracity of the Kryll.
Overview[]
It functioned similar to an Ink Grenade, but instead of toxic ink, it attracted a swarm of Kryll to rip apart any humans unfortunate enough to be caught in it.[1]
It is unknown how the Grenade actually attracts the Kryll but it seems that, since the Evacuation of Ilima took place during daylight, the Grenade might obscure the area so that the Kryll can attack the victim. It could also be something in the ink that helps the Kryll detect its prey such as a peculiar pheromone that attracts only Kryll to that particular vicinity.
As such, despite similiar outward appearances, it is possible that this species of immature Nemacyst are a special and separate breed.
Behind the scenes[]
- It is assumed that, with RAAM's death and the aftermath of the Lightmass Offensive, Kryll Grenades fell out of use after the extinction of the Kryll - either that or it was repurposed as the Locust equivalent of a Smoke Grenade.
