The High Velocity Main Cannon is the main armament of the Centaur Light Tank. This turreted cannon sits on top of the chassis of the Centaur and comes pre-loaded with six internal rocket-assisted rounds launched at sufficient velocity.
These cannons were quite powerful and was deadly against most Locust forces, requiring one shot to kill a Berserker or Corpser and five direct hits to kill a Brumak on normal difficulty. [1][2]
Strategy[]
In Gears of War 2, on Act 3 Ascension, when the player takes control of the Centaur, the High Velocity Main Cannon is a powerful weapon that could reliably take down almost anything the Locust could bring at Delta. Its surprising fast rate of fire and respectable magazine size of six shots allow a player to perform quickshots.
It is a relatively accurate weapon in contrast to the spread of a Brumak Rocket Launcher, although not as devastating. Players can perform an active reload, a perfect reload gifts this cannon a more powerful punch whilst a failed reload jams the cannon.
Behind the Scenes[]
- It is unknown how the cannon could internally fit six shots at once. It is entirely possible that the cannon is actually a revolver cannon, which would explain its fast fire rate and rapid reload time.
