Gears of War was ported to PC on November 11, 2007. It includes new maps, as well as a Map Editor, which has the ability to make new missions. It was not ported to Vista as Halo 2 PC was, but rather to Windows XP instead. With DirectX 10, graphics are displayed at a higher quality compared to the original Xbox 360 release. It is also a Games For Windows Live title, meaning mutliplayer is done via live gamertags. Achievements were added as well, containing all the same achievements as the 360 version with the exception of one additional achievement for killing the Brumak on Hardcore difficulty. A map editor named Unreal Editor was included, with the ability to let players create their own Campaign and Multiplayer maps.
Campaign[]
In the PC version of Gears of War, there are five added chapters to Act 5: Desperation which take place before the original release's Special Delivery chapter. In the fifth added chapter Jurassic Proportions, the player fights a Brumak; the Brumak will "be stalking you, and there is no chance of pressing Q or X as you will need all the time to Roadie Run away, and any cover you posses will be demolished by the Brumak".[1]
Multiplayer[]
In addition to the 16 multiplayer maps already available for Gears of War, the PC version includes three new maps: Courtyard, Sanctuary, and Gold Rush. These three maps are also now available on Gears of War 2 through that game's Snowblind, Dark Corners, and Combustible Map Packs respectively. It does not support cross-platform play between the PC and Xbox 360, however.[2]
