The Explosive Flail is a large and dangerous melee weapon used exclusively by the Mauler and Mauler Elite. These flails has an explosive tipped-charge that ignites on impact when swung at sufficient velocity.
Maulers and their elite brethren swing their flails overhead when they are on a charge, however, when in defensive positions, they are unable to use their weapons. Due to their strength, Maulers need to be taken down from afar before they get too close.
Their size makes them unusable by regular humans and locusts.

Beast Mode[]
Explosive Flails are only usable on Beast Mode, with only the Mauler being the ones able to wield such a weapon. Explosive Flails are powerful melee weapons that could destroy barricades in a few hits, kill Gears with two hits and instagib a Stranded with one hit.
Behind the Scenes[]
- It is unknown how the flail maintains its shape after multiple explosions.
- The tip of the flail resembles an overly enlarged Bolo Grenade.
