The Claw Light Machine Gun, simply known as the Claw or Claw LMG, was a Swarm magazine-fed machine gun developed in the early stages of the Swarm Invasion once they gained the intellect to create their own firearms from the ascension of their Queen, Reyna Diaz. While most firearms used by the Swarm were either inherited from the Locust Horde or captured from the human armies, mainly the COG and UIR, the Claw was the first weapon manufactured by the Swarm.
Because of the Swarm's uncivilized nature and lack of industry, Claw LMGs were improvised firearms, built using parts taken from other Locust weapons and scrap metal, which was very apparent in the weapon's performance, particularly its unique inverse variable rate of fire and accuracy.
In its initial firing, the CLAW is fast but incredibly inaccurate, more so than even the poor accuracy of either the Retro Lancer, the Enforcer Submachine Gun and the Talon Autopistol. However, after a while, the rate of fire rapidly slows to a crawl and its accuracy increases. Firing the CLAW therefore has a level of depth and complexity in handling the weapon, making it a difficult but rewarding machine gun in the right hands.
Its Crystal Tooth Bayonet could be used offensively as a devastating melee weapon and defensively, allowing the user to block chainsaw bayonet attacks.
Execution[]
The user lodges the Claw's crystal tooth bayonet into the back of the enemy, before forcefully ripping out its arms from the sheer force.
Behind the scenes[]
- The Claw was teased for the first time in the E3 2018 trailer of Gears 5.
- With its pan magazine, the Claw resembles firearms like the British Lewis Gun, Soviet DP-28, and American-180 SMG. Unlike those real-life examples, the bullets in the Claw's pan magazine are vertical, rather than horizontal.
