The Gears of War book series consists of a 5 volume series written by Karen Traviss and published by Del Ray in collaboration with Epic Games [1] as well as two novels written by Jason M. Hough in collaboration with The Coalition.
Gears of War: Aspho Fields[]
Gears of War: Aspho Fields is set during the Evacuation of North Gate one week after the Lightmass Offensive. Flashbacks detail the events of Aspho Fields in the closing years of the Pendulum Wars.
Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant[]
Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant takes place after the Siege of Jacinto while flashbacks detail the events leading up to the Hammer of Dawn counterattack against the Locust in the early days of the Locust War.
Gears of War: Anvil Gate[]
Gears of War: Anvil Gate takes place after Jacinto's Remnant. It introduces the Lambent Locust invasion of the surface of Sera and flashbacks cover the Siege of Anvil Gate during the Pendulum Wars.
Gears of War: Coalition's End[]
Gears of War: Coalition's End takes place between Anvil Gate and Gears of War 3. The novel is set during the ongoing Lambent Invasion while flashbacks detail events from Emergence Day leading up to the Hammer of Dawn counterattack and beyond.
Gears of War: The Slab[]
Gears of War: The Slab is a prequel to the first Gears of War game. The story covers Marcus Fenix's time in the prison of the same name as well as his father's parallel imprisonment on the island of Azura.
Gears of War: Ascendance[]
Gears of War: Ascendance is the sixth Gears of War novel. It acted as an interquel between Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, starting where Gears of War 4 left off and leading into the events of Gears 5.
Gears of War: Bloodlines[]
Gears of War: Bloodlines is the seventh Gears of War novel. It takes place during the four month time jump between the Evacuation of Settlement 2 and the Siege of the Riftworm Village in Gears 5. The ending also hints at the events of Gears Tactics.
Gears of War: Ephyra Rising[]
Gears of War: Ephyra Rising is the eighth Gears of War novel. It takes place 6 months after the ending of Gears of War 3, prior to the events of Gears of War 4.
