- "It's actually very interesting. First, it creates an ionized vector field..."
- —Baird briefly describing the functions of Barrier.
Barrier is the term used to describe the kinetic shield that protects a Guardian, a Sentinel, and later, JACK from enemy fire. The Leech-possessed Bastions, modified the Barrier to protect its allies instead.
According to Damon Baird, the Barrier is made from an ionized vector field projected by a shielding device below the robot. The Barrier could resist a lot of small arms fire, but explosives and heavier weapons could quickly wither down the Barrier's defensive capabilities overtime.
Strategy[]
When fighting against a Guardian or a Sentinel, always use a heavy weapon as it could quickly bring down the Barrier in a matter of seconds. Small arms fire are much more ineffective at taking it down. Another way is to flank the DeeBee, as the shield only protects the front. Alternatively, a proper shot from a Dropshot Munitions Launcher could bypass the entire Barrier if aimed carefully.[1]
The Barrier from the Bastion however, works differently. Rather than protecting itself, it shields others from harm. It seems that the Swarm or more specifically, the Leech, has modified the Barrier to be indestructable. How the Swarm manage to do this, is currently unknown. The only way to deal with the Barrier, is to destroy the Bastion itself.[2]
In Gears 5, the Barrier is JACK's last abillity. It functions similiarly to that of the DeeBees, however it is larger and could protect both JACK and Delta Squad from attack. It is also far more stronger, resisting heavier weaponry at the cost of a limited time limit. The Barrier can be upgraded four times,[3] these are:
Duration[]
- Increase Barrier duration by 50%
Reflect Bullets[]
- Bullets reflect off of JACK's Barrier
Bulwark[]
- Increases the size of JACK's Barrier
Deadly Overload[]
- JACK's Barrier explodes outwards when it expires
