The Ambush of Riftworm Village was a battle that took place in the first months of the Swarm Invasion. Four months after the defeat at Settlement 2, an evacuation convoy that was led by Delta-One traveled to the Riftworm Village, one of the few remaining Outsider villages, in order to persuade the village's leader, Chief Oscar Diaz, to evacuate the villager and join forces with the Coalition of Ordered Governments. As Corporal Kait Diaz and Lieutenant Delmont Walker tried to reason with Chief Diaz, an overwhelming Swarm force attacked the village. During the battle, Cpl. Diaz was taken by a Snatcher. Due to her grandmother being the late Queen Myrrah, Cpl. Diaz temporarily defected to the Swarm against her will - leading the attack as their Queen. Her actions ultimately led to Chief Oscar Diaz being killed in action by a Warden. This attack ultimately led the villagers and the Gears to join together and fight against their common enemy. Also, Cpl. Diaz's experience caused her to lead her own recon mission on uncovering the origins of the Locust Horde and her grandmother.
