Gears 5 Abandoned Mine bridge

The Abandoned Mine was a mine in the Kadar Valley in Tyrus that was owned and operated by Nethercutt Mining during the Pendulum Wars.

History[]

The Abandoned Mine was one of the many mines that was owned and operated by Nethercutt Mining during the Pendulum Wars. It was excavated by Nethercutt Tunnel Boring Machines. The metals and the other materials that are extracted from the mine are used to supply the Coalition of Ordered Governments' war effort. The Nethercutt managers often cut corners to maximize the profits and the working conditions in the mine are unsafe by resulting in the deaths of some miners. Eventually, the mine was closed down and abandoned.[1]

Deep inside the Abandoned Mine

Decades later, in 42 A.E., a group of Outsiders from the Riftworm Village lead by a trio named Lena, Norsko and Freddie found the Abandoned Mine and converted it into their base of operations as they began scavenging the Kadar Valley for supplies. Unfortunately for them, the Swarm began appearing in the valley soon after. The Outsiders were forced out of their home and perished one by one. Freddie was killed by a DeeBee that was guarding the New Hope Research Facility. Norsko was podded and transformed into a Juvie and Lena froze to death in an old substation.[1]

Not long afterwards, Kait Diaz and Delmont Walker arrived in the valley. They discovered the Abandoned Mine and learned about the fate of the missing Outsiders. Inside the mine, they are attacked by a Snatcher and other Swarm creatures, but recovered a canister of phosphorous gas from one of the derelict boring machines and fought their way back out. They used the phosphorous to blow a hole in the ice that was concealing the Mount Kadar Laboratory and entered the facility.[1]
